Poetry/Journal Therapy Intensive
at Loretto Spirituality Center, Denver, Colorado
June 11-16, 2007

Join us for a journal/poetry therapy intensive! In this six-day, five-night immersion experience you will learn:

• basic theories and techniques for both poetry and journal therapy
  
• proven, time-tested techniques the experts use for group and individual facilitation
  
• a notebook of therapeutic poems, journal processes, handouts and other teaching/facilitation tools
  
• how to select literature and design writing processes for therapeutic purposes
  
• and much more!

Who Should Attend?

• Those in training as Certified or Registered Poetry Therapists (CPT or PTR) or Certified Applied Poetry/Journal Facilitators (CAPF)
  
• Those considering training as above
  
• Certified Instructors of Journal to the Self
  
• Cross Country Education participants
• Psychotherapists and others who facilitate writing groups and want to learn how to deepen their understanding of the theory and practice of therapeutic writing

How Many Hours?
The entire intensive spans 36 hours of actual classroom time. It counts as 36 hours of NBCC-approved continuing education for LPCs, NCCs, and other licensed counseling designations. For those in CAPF, CPT or PTR training it counts as 15.5 didactic hours, 16 peer group hours and 4.5 supervision hours.

What Else Will I Learn?

• Attendees may present cases or questions for group supervision.
  
• Attendees who are in CAPF, CPT or PTR training under Kay's supervision will be asked to facilitate a peer group. Trainees of other mentor/supervisors may request to facilitate.
  
• Poetry on the Rocks! On Thursday morning we will take a field trip to beautiful Red Rocks Amphitheatre for easy hiking and writing on the rocks.

Other Details

• Space is limited to 16 participants.
  
• Cost is $725 for non-trainees, or $675 for CAPF/CPT/PTR trainees.
• Lodging is $350 for single room with private bath, $325 for spacious twin with private bath, $325 for single room with toilet/sink in room, and shared showers/bathtubs. Lodging cost includes 3 meals/day.
  
• Reasonably priced hotel accommodations ($95 or under per night) are available nearby for those traveling with families or desiring additional privacy. An automobile would be required.
• Fly into the Denver International Airport (DIA) for arrival Monday afternoon, June 11.
  
• Fly out of DIA the afternoon of Saturday, June 16.
  
• Shuttle service to the Loretto Center in south suburban Denver will be arranged at an additional cost to be determined.
  

Your Presenters
Kathleen Adams, MA, LPC, PTR-M/S is the director of the Center for Journal Therapy, an internationally recognized training and consulting company. She is an established pioneer in the field of therapeutic writing, and is the author of six books on the power of writing. Journal to the Self: 22 Paths to Personal Growth is a classic in the field. She is a Registered Poetry/Journal Therapist and an approved Mentor/Supervisor who directs the poetry therapy training of several individuals both in Denver and through a distance-learning program.

Joy Sawyer, MA, LPC, PTR-M/S is a licensed professional counselor and the author of three books, one of which is on the topic of poetry and spirituality. She has published articles, essays, and poetry in more than forty publications. Joy is the former poetry editor for the Mars Hill Review, a popular national publication. One of her master's degrees is from New York University, where she received the Herbert Rubin Award for Outstanding Creative Writing.

Together, Kathleen and Joy teach a curriculum for a Master of Arts degree program in Writing & Healing for the Master of Liberal Studies program at University College at the University of Denver. This is the sixth annual journal/poetry intensive they have taught.

A $300 deposit will hold your place. The rest of tuition, and all of lodging, is due by May 31, 2007.
